Hi guys, just thought I should share this with you.
I’ve recently stumbled a cross a great little 10w solid state amp, the Kustom kga10fx. They are discontinued and go for next to nothing on ebay etc, about £20 in the UK.
Firstly these are incredible for the size. Great great tone for guitar without any pedals and fantastic tone for harp with a few tweaks. If you search them on YouTube you will see a small number of glowing reviews. They seem to be one of those forgotten gems filled with fairy dust! They have a line out etc so you can use a cab if you want, but they have a fair bit of power on their own.
So given the price of them I have bought two!
This is my new rig for amplified harp.
2x kustom kga10fx split with a fender aby Pedal and joyo American sound pedal.
I get the amps on the clean channel and use their inbuilt reverb/delay for a bit of depth, then use the joyo to give it a bit of grit and honk. I use the amps tone controls to have one delivering more highs and the other more lows, so you get a really great mix.
Anyway. Thought you’d all like to know about this one. It’s so cheap! all in, including the two amps and pedals it’s less than £100 but I reckon it sounds 10x as good.
Love finding this stuff.

Hey Ian, Thanks for sharing. We’d love to see a video/sound demo/sample, if you have the time to upload one! 🙂November 25, 2018 at 2:54 am #12162

No worries, it’s one of those combos that delivers way more than it should.
I’d recommend anyone to get one of these amps if you see one used. They are so much better than you would expect and cost so little.
I’ll do my best to record something that gives a good impression of the setup. It may take a while though, life gets firmly in the way of this kinda thing most of the time ! Watch this space, (for a while) ha!December 7, 2018 at 4:49 am #12205
Just spent the last half hour setting up the amps to record. Recorded both amps independently and then together, just noodling….
Put them away…
Then found out the recording didn’t save! Argh!!!
Next time. Sounded good though 😉
Took a couple of photos of the eq settings on the amps.December 7, 2018 at 4:49 am #12206
File size too big for photos…. Oh well.December 7, 2018 at 5:47 am #12209
Ok… Recorded it again. Just trying to convert the recordings to something I can upload and cut out the setting up noise… Just played something simple to give an idea of tone. You can hear how the single amps output gets clipped more than when running two amps both dealing with different ends of the spectrum. Bear with….December 7, 2018 at 6:09 am #12210
The right step for me was to set up a soundcloud account, upload recordings there and post links in the forum.
It should work for you as well 🎤

Cheers udo. At the moment I’m fighting with a weird audio format. I’ll figure it out later.December 7, 2018 at 9:04 am #12214December 7, 2018 at 9:19 am #12217December 7, 2018 at 9:22 am #12218
Ok, that works for now. The link should take you to a clip of me doing some pretty thoughtless (and messy) noodling using just one amp.
So the rig here is…

This one is using two amps.
2 x kustom kga10fx
Fender aby pedal

Firstly, the sound isn’t that well captured. It’s just from my phone, so it’s missing the stereo effect of the two amps used together.
On the 2 amp setup Basically 1 amp was all bass with a bit of gain and the other was mids and highs with a bit more gain.
I decided not to use the american tone pedal as it colours the sounds of the amps so much that i don’t think you get an idea as to how cool these amps are… Remember they cost about £20 each!
There is a weird inbuilt delay/reverb hybrid so I’ve got it set to about 9 o’clock on both.
I think you can hear that the depth is greater in the clip with 2 amps. I think I had about 1 cent less gain on the 2 amps together so there is a bit less breakup, but it’s just such a controllable sound with a lot less clipping. There is more of a balance between the low and high end in reality when listening to the two amps together, I think the bass was picked up more my the phone mic.
The single amp still sounds good imo, although in reality it doesn’t sound quite as good as the recording is making out, I think the recording software may have compressed the tone a little and no where near as deep or complex as the two together.December 7, 2018 at 10:10 am #12223
